About Us
Our primary purpose is grant-giving: to raise funds and provide practical assistance to help finance structural repairs to churches, chapels, meeting houses and other places of worship in England and Wales that are over 100 years old. All the applications we receive are considered on an individual basis, and the grants we award are divided into four categories:

  1. Cornerstone grants for churches of outstanding architectural, social and historic value that have a funding deficit of over £15,000. Recent recipients include Selby Abbey which used our exceptionally large £100,000 grant to complete a key phase of a £5 million restoration programme;

  2. Standard grants for churches which again have a deficit of over £15,000 but need less urgent help than Cornerstone candidates;
  3. Foundation grants for churches looking for £4,000 – £15,000; and

  4. Facilities grants provided to help towards the installation of new facilities, e.g. toilets and heating, or specifically to provide assistance towards improving access.

Since the Trust was founded in 1953, it has been committed to preserving places of worship for future generations. In the 21st Century we remain committed to that aim, but we are also developing in a way which will see us take an increasingly active and innovative role.
