The Temple area contains the Inner Temple and Middle Temple which are two of the Inns of Court. The 12th century name recorded was Novum Temple which means ‘New Temple’ named from a house belonging to the Knights of Templar. On Hugh’s death n 1326 the Inner Temple was passed onto the first Mayor of London then to William de Langford in 1333 for a ten year lease.
